This itemset was inspired by the Downhill track type of alpine skiing. It was made with the Trackmania mesh modler and is primarily for the Trackmania Stadium car.
This icy itemset includes unique items that are different from normal ice blocks in a few ways:
- The items have a slope of mostly 7° (higher slopes also exist up to 21°). This means the car has more forward momentum than on flat ice, which results in the situation that ice slides are not a nobrainer for every turn, but also not generally bad like on Bobsleigh. Whether forward driving or ice sliding is better, depends on the exact turn and the situation. Creativity and improvisation skills of the players are emphasized.
- The collidable geometry is "no grip ice". "No grip" has no slide outs in comparison to normal ice. This means that ice slides can be approached much more aggressivly and much more extreme ice slides are possible.
- The fundamental angle of the turns is 45° instead of the 90° of most vanilla turns. The items are still placed on the normal grid. This requires that all items exist in two versions: An orthogonal version and an diagonal version. Whenever a 45° turn is used, the mapper has to switch from one item type to the other. This enables the possibility of 45°, 135°, 225° etc. turns, which is important for Downhills.
- The visual geometry is pretty white snow.
How to use: Extract the "Downhill" folder into the Documents/Trackmania/Items folder.
There are 7 subfolder of items:
- Straights: Contains Straights in different lengths.
- Turns: Conatins unbanked Straights with 7° Slope with different radii.
- S-curves: Conatins items with sideway transpositions, with different Elevation change options in the middle. The direction of the track at the beginning and end of the item is the same, so no change between orthogonal and diagonal items is required.
- Jumps: Contains Jumps with transpositions upwards and downwards, also with transpositions to the left and right.
- Bankings: Contains banked Straights, banked bumpy Straights and banked Turns.
- Slopes: Contains additional unbanked Straights, Turns and S-curves for 0°, 14° and 21° and Transitions between the Slopes.
- Waypoints: Contains CPs, Starts and Finish items for each slope.
